COVID-19: Devon Wheelchair service guide

June 2020

Scope

Key update: Our RD&E NHS wheelchair clinicians were already completing urgent visits, but as we are able to provide wheelchairs in a safe manner we are now expanding this to routine patients. We are only completing a visit where a virtual appointment cannot be used and a screening call is carried out to the patient before visiting. We are following the new PPE guidelines for the community, that were published this month.

Repairs/modifications

Repair jobs will only be carried out where the patient is out of the chair.

Where possible repairs will be completed outside of the client's property whilst maintaining social distancing.

Deliveries

Where possible deliveries of chairs and cushions will be a contactless delivery.

Routine referrals

We are only completing a visit where a virtual appointment cannot be used and a screening call is carried out to the patient before visiting. We are following the new PPE guidelines for the community, that were published this month.

Whilst collections will be kept to a minimum there may be the need to collect chairs from time to time.
