There is insufficient evidence to support the use of medication for colic.
Physical measures such as cuddling with a gentle rocking motion, swaddling wraps and pacifiers are recommended. The use of unlicensed herbal preparations is discouraged. Dietary factors (milk proteins and fruit juice carbohydrates) in infants and nursing mothers have been linked with colic but research is very limited.
Parents should be encouraged to look after their own well-being. 'Cry-sis' is a support organisation for families with excessively crying, sleepless and demanding children.
