17.4.2 Silicone keloid dressings

Silicone gel and gel sheets are used to reduce or prevent hypertrophic and keloid scarring. They should not be used on open wounds. Application times should be increased gradually. Silicone sheets can be washed and reused.

Silicone gel

Kelo-cote Gel

(Silicone gel)

  •  Gel 15g, 60g

Indications

  • Treatment and prevention of hypertrophic and keloid scars resulting from burns, general surgical procedures and traumatic wounds

Notes

  1. Do not use on dermatological conditions that disrupt skin integrity
  2. Avoid direct contact with the eyes, mucous membranes, third-degree burns and open wounds

Silicone spray

Kelo-cote Spray

(Silicone spray)

  • Spray 100ml

Indications

  • Treatment and prevention of hypertrophic and keloid scars resulting from burns, general surgical procedures and traumatic wounds

Notes

  1. This spray contains flammable gases to help deliver the silicone
  2. Do not use near the eyes, nose or mouth
  3. Do not use on dermatological conditions that disrupt skin integrity
  4. Avoid direct contact with the eyes, mucous membranes, third-degree burns and open wounds

Cica-Care

(Soft, self-adhesive, semi-occlusive silicone gel sheet with backing)

  • Rectangle 6 x 12cm, 15 x 12cm

Indications

  • Management and prevention of hypertrophic and keloid scars

Notes

  1. Do not use on dermatological conditions that disrupt skin integrity
  2. Do not use on open or infected wounds
  3. Do not use on skin currently affected by acne
