5.1.2.1 Cephalosporins

Cefalexin

• Capsules 250mg (£2.13 = 28 pack), 500mg (£2.41 = 21 pack)
• Oral suspension 125mg/5ml, 250mg/5ml (£4.67, £5.16 = 100ml)

Indications

• Pyelonephritis (acute)
  • Non-pregnant women and men aged 16 years and over
  • Pregnant women aged 12 years and over
  • Children and young people aged 3 months to 16 years
• Pregnant women ≥12 years with UTI (lower) - (second line)
• UTI (lower) in children and young people aged 3 months to 16 years - (second line)
• Catheter-associated UTI
  • Non-pregnant women and men aged 16 years and over with upper UTI symptoms
  • Pregnant women aged 12 years and over
  • Children and young people aged 3 months to 16 years
• Recurrent UTI in non-pregnant women - (second line)

Ceftriaxone

• Powder for solution for injection vial 250mg, 1g, 2g (£9.58 = 1g vial)

Indications

• Lyme disease (via outpatient or home parenteral antibiotic therapy service where available)
• Gonorrhoea
• Pelvic inflammatory disease - plus doxycycline and metronidazole

Cefotaxime

• Powder for solution for injection vial 500mg, 1g, 2g (£3.50 = 1g vial)

Indications

• Suspected meningococcal disease

Cefixime

• Tablets 200mg (£13.23 = 7 pack)

Indications

• Gonorrhoea

Meropenem / vaborbactam

• Powder for solution for infusion vials 1g/1g

Indications

• For use in infections as advised by microbiology or infectious diseases clinician
