Tablets 100mg (£0.80 = 28 tablets), 200mg (£1.61 = 14 tablets)
Oral suspension sugar free 50mg/5ml (£6.41 = 100ml)

Indications

Prostatitis (acute)
Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome - (first line)
UTI (lower) in children and young people aged 3 months to 16 years - (first line)
Pyelonephritis (acute) – (specialist input)
- Non-pregnant women and men aged 16 years and over
Catheter-associated UTI (see note 2)
- Non-pregnant women and men aged 16 years and over with no upper UTI symptoms - (first line)
- Non-pregnant women and men aged 16 years and over with upper UTI symptoms - (specialist input)
- Children and young people aged 3 months to 16 years - (first line)

Notes

Trimethoprim may be considered or advised by specialists in pregnancy
1. It is recommended that women who need to take trimethoprim during the first trimester also take high dose folic acid (5mg daily) until week 12 of pregnancy
2. Avoid trimethoprim if the woman has a low folate status or is on a folate antagonist (e.g. antiepileptic or proguanil)
Catheter can be changed or remain in situ
